Trump Grumbles About Employment Report After Strong Job Growth

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Friday grumbled about a closely watched employment report that showed the U.S. added a robust 263,000 jobs in April, even as he continues to make false claims that the unemployment rate is at the lowest level in 51 years.

Trump asserted without evidence that the April jobs report was “terrible” and “phony,” baselessly accusing the government of manipulating the numbers. The president’s comments came in a series of tweets after the Labor Department released the closely watched data that also showed the unemployment rate held steady at 3.6%.

“Our jobs numbers are the best in 51 years, and all time best unemployment numbers in history,” Trump tweeted earlier this week, despite evidence to the contrary. .
