I’m pretty sure Nicole Kidman would look Oscar-ready in her pajamas, but that doesn’t take anything away from her slinky, sequined Armani look at the 2023 Academy Awards. The floor-length dress featured a single sleeve, a thigh slit up to here, and oversized floral decals on her shoulder and at the hip. And if that weren’t enough glitz, the Oscar winner also accessorized with jewels from Harry Winston and Omega.
Kidman wore her long blonde hair loose around her face, almost obscuring her dark smoky eye. And don’t forget the shoes: a pair of strappy, pointed-toe stilettos on full display thanks to the dramatic side slit in the skirt. Speaking to Vanessa Hudgens on the red carpet during the pre-show, Kidman said she was choosing to accept her AFI Lifetime Achievement Award as a celebration of all the directors who’d chosen to work with her over the years. “I’m not a big one to celebrate myself,” she demurred.
While Kidman was attending the 95th Annual Academy Awards as a presenter, not a nominee this time, that didn’t mean she escaped a mention in Jimmy Fallon’s opening monologue. “Nicole Kidman has finally been released from that abandoned AMC,” the ceremony’s host joked, referencing her campy AMC ad that played in AMC movie theaters and which has since become a meme.
In all fairness, if there was ever a time when celebrities might earnestly say of the movie theater experience, “Heartbreak feels good in a place like this,” it would be the Oscars.
