Observing this year’s footwear trends has been a wild ride, to say the least, taking us from ’00s cork wedges to unexpected toe exposure. The fact that platform Uggs are poised for a return as temperatures drop is proof of the appetite for nostalgic—and dizzying—shoe styles. In this sea of extreme footwear choices (toes are the new legs, after all), it will have come as a relief to some to see the classic slingback stepping back into the limelight. Supermodel Gigi Hadid closed out her Paris Fashion Week wearing one of the hottest versions of the moment.
Despite making only select appearances on the runway this season, the new-gen super still walked some of the top shows, including Versace, Chanel and Miu Miu. Once the curtain fell on Paris Fashion Week, Hadid made for Miu Miu’s star-studded after-party, wearing an intricately embellished lace minidress with a turtleneck-style collar, gathered satin trimmings, and a satin ribbon detail cinching the waist. She added a leather jacket, a quilted box bag, and oval-shaped shades to complete the sleek look. While her outfit was on the understated side, eagle-eyed observers will have clocked Hadid’s patent-leather buckle-adorned slingbacks, which are among the most coveted pieces from Miu Miu’s autumn-winter 2023 collection.
Earlier this year, Vogue named the style “summer’s sexiest shoe,” and sure enough, its seductive, elongated silhouette has made its way into the shoe closets of some of the most influential dressers of the moment—Gigi Hadid’s included.
