Halle Bailey’s Velvet LBD Proves There’s More Than One Way to Do Balletcore

I know black velvet isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when somebody says “balletcore,” but who says ballerina chic has to be pink? Not Halle Bailey, whose sumptuous little black dress is nothing if not tutu-inspired.

The Little Mermaid star was honored as one of Glamour UK, and for the October 17 celebration in London, Bailey wore a strapless minidress whose voluminous miniskirt seemed designed for doing pirouettes. In lieu of tulle, Bailey’s dress featured an underskirt made of sculptural white roses that gave the dress its tutu-esque volume.

The look wasn’t all Swan Lake, however, as Bailey paired the dress with strappy platform sandals and a dramatic white manicure. She was also literally dripping in diamonds. Per stylist Nicky Good, Bailey’s diamond chain necklace, drop earrings, tennis bracelet, and cocktail ring are by Anabela Chan. The dress, meanwhile is Nicole + Felicia Couture.

“Omg you guys 🥹♥️what a beautiful night,” Halle Bailey wrote on Instagram. “I’m so grateful that I was honored with the Glamour Woman of the Year Gen Z Game-Changer award ❣️✨this is such a special honor to me and feels oh so amazing to be recognized for the work that I have put in all the years of my career. being a young woman in the spotlight is definitely not for the weak.. but because of God, my loved ones and mentors I am able to face the world everyday with my head held high.”
