Xi urges building a community with a shared future for mankind in meeting UN Chief

BEIJING, May 26 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday called for building a community with a shared future for mankind in Beijing when meeting with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Xi said that China is ready to work with the UN to advocate peace, development, equity, justice, democracy and freedom, which are the common values of all humanity and also the goals of the UN Charter. He put forward a five-point proposal on building a community with a shared future for mankind, calling on all countries to jointly safeguard world peace and security, promote common development, uphold international fairness and justice, foster exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, and build a clean and beautiful world. Xi stressed that China will continue to firmly support the work of the UN, support multilateralism, and practice true multilateralism. He said China is ready to enhance cooperation with the UN in various fields to contribute to world peace and development. Guterres said the UN highly appreciates China’s commitment to multilateralism and its important contributions to safeguarding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. He said that the UN will continue to strengthen cooperation with China to jointly meet global challenges. The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine issue. Xi stressed that China’s position is consistent and clear-cut. China is always on the side of peace and will continue to promote peace talks. China hopes that the international community will create conditions for peace talks instead of adding fuel to the fire or escalating conflicts. The two sides agreed to continue maintaining close communication to jointly promote world peace and stability..
