Google to invest $9.5 billion to expand data centers in Nebraska

OMAHA, Neb. — Google plans to invest $9.5 billion to expand its data center operations in Nebraska over the next several years, with plans to hire hundreds of new employees and deploy new technologies that the company says will save energy and reduce carbon emissions.

The company announced the investment Monday during an event at its data center in Papillion, Nebraska, which is one of the largest and most advanced in the world. Google said the expansion will create 100 new jobs at the Papillion data center and another 3,000 indirect jobs in the state.

The announcement comes as Google faces growing pressure to reduce its carbon footprint. The company has pledged to become carbon neutral by 2030, and it has been investing heavily in renewable energy and other sustainability initiatives.

The new data center expansion will be powered by 100% renewable energy, and Google said it will use a variety of energy-efficient technologies, including liquid cooling and artificial intelligence, to reduce its environmental impact.

Google said the expansion will also help it meet the growing demand for its cloud computing services. The company’s data centers are used to power a wide range of services, including Gmail, YouTube, and Google Search.

The investment in Nebraska is part of Google’s broader plan to expand its data center footprint around the world. The company has announced plans to invest $13 billion in data centers in Iowa and $6.5 billion in data centers in Oklahoma.

Google’s investment in Nebraska is a major win for the state. The company is one of the largest employers in the state, and its investment will help to create jobs and boost the economy.

“This is a great day for Nebraska,” said Governor Pete Ricketts. “Google’s investment will create jobs, boost our economy, and help us continue to lead the nation in the 21st century economy.”

Google’s investment in Nebraska is also a testament to the state’s growing tech sector. Nebraska has become a hub for data centers in recent years, and the state is home to a number of other tech companies, including Facebook, Microsoft, and Amazon.

The tech sector is a major part of Nebraska’s economy, and Google’s investment will help to further grow the sector and create jobs for Nebraskans..
