Here in the dog days of summer, it is our duty to report that jorts, seen here on Emily Ratajkowski in New York City, are still happening. As EmRata demonstrates, they work best when worn as part of a whole skater-kid, hot-stoner-girl aesthetic.

The model, author, and podcaster was photographed wearing jorts—baggy knee-length denim dad shorts, quite the opposite of Daisy Dukes—on the city streets on August 14 with a belly-button-baring white tube top. The classic Vans sneakers were giving sk8er boi, while the black Loewe bag kept it fashion.

Ratajkowski isn’t alone in her embrace of the laid-back, old-school style, the beginnings of which we saw with the revival of the bucket hat. Gigi Hadid entered her stoner-girl era at least a year earlier, when she paired a bucket hat with a cropped colorful collared sweater and Converse sneakers. Jorts, meanwhile, have become a favorite of fashion girlies like Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid.

Emily Ratajkowski rounded out this particular skater-girl ’fit with a couple of punk-adjacent gold necklaces, oversized square sunglasses, and a long-hair-don’t-care attitude while she scrolled her phone on her walk in the sun.
