Lily James has emerged as the fashion girlie of the moment, and we’re here for it.
The Pam & Tommy actor has been making her style rounds all throughout the year both on and off the red carpet, leading to major outfit inspo this spring. But her latest look—a stunning Versace gown for the 2022 Oscars—takes the best spot in my book. Unlike other award shows this season, the Academy Awards is known for its rigid tradition, leading stars to save the best for last when it comes to pulling extravagant couture looks.
The 32-year-old actress worked with the Italian fashion house for her Academy Awards dress, using a delicate pink lace to contrast the garment’s sexy undertone: namely the form-fitting bodice and ultra-high slit. It’s a line James has tip-toed extremely well in her recent style line-up, whether it’s by pairing a bra with a blazer or completely transforming into ’90s sex symbol Pamela Anderson.
James seems to tap into Anderson’s signature risqué aesthetic after playing the Baywatch star in the limited Hulu series alongside costar Sebastian Stan. The show follows Anderson’s then-relationship with Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee as their sex tape gets leaked to the masses.
Although Anderson didn’t exactly give her blessing, James said it was a “huge responsibility” to play the star, telling Entertainment Tonight: “Pam, she’s such an icon, I really love her, and I wanted to try and do her justice and try and capture her spirit and really explore what happened at that time and how she was treated and how things have changed, or not changed.”
A sheer chiffon pink train, adorned with embroidered flowers, played into James’s girly look, with matching heeled sandals and a silver necklace to compliment her gown. The actor’s beauty and hair was also minimal, leaving the fashion to speak for itself, and for that, we’re grateful.
